  • Pinata? O, yes. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to learn something about their culture.

    (Redirected from Pinata)

The piñata is a game in which a succession of blindfolded, stick-wielding children try to break a bright candy-and-toy-filled container (generally suspended on a rope from a tree branch or ceiling). It has been used for hundreds of years to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. Spanish colonizers are thought to have brought the piñata to Mexico, then the tradition went on to the Italians. According to legend, Marco Polo introduced the piñata to the Italians after discovering it in the Orient...

  • That Sponge Bob is actually a Pinata - it is normally for kids' birthday parties. It's filled with all kinds candies, the birthday boy (or girl) will be blindfolded (so he or she cannot see) and use a long stick trying to hit the pinata in order to break it and get the candies out. Meantime Dad will swing the Pinata to make the process harder and more fun. In your photo, the little boy is not blindfolded - I guess Dad wants to make it easier for him.
